Sibenik Crotia

Tara in front of a fountain

As we set foot in the picturesque town of Sibenik, we were greeted with the aroma of freshly baked bread and the sight of charming street-side cafes. The place was alive with people; locals and tourists alike, sitting and enjoying a cup of coffee or a glass of wine in the sun. Our excitement about exploring this city could hardly be contained.

After checking into our AirBnB, we took a stroll around the town, admiring the red roofs of the homes and the breathtaking Stari grad church. It was easy to see why Sibenik has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. The historic city center was bursting with life, with musicians playing on street corners and fountains dancing to their tunes.

The next day, we decided to take a day trip to the Plitvice Lakes National Park. We arrived early, eager to traverse the winding boardwalks and see the park’s famous waterfalls. The moment we arrived, it was like we had entered a fairytale world.

The lush greenery surrounding the turquoise blue water created a scene of unbridled beauty. We took countless photos of the scenery, each one more mesmerizing than the last. The waterfalls were particularly captivating, cascading down with an almost ethereal quality. It was no surprise why this place had been named a UNESCO World Heritage site as well.

As we continued our hike through the park, we came upon a fairy. We could hardly believe our eyes as she quickly danced past us, leaving a twinkle of magic in her wake. It was an experience we will never forget.

After several hours of exploring, we found ourselves exhausted yet content. We took a moment to sit and simply absorb the beauty around us. As we made our way back to Sibenik, we couldn’t help but think about everything we had seen and how grateful we were to have experienced such magnificent sights.

That evening, we returned to the street-side cafes, savoring the delicious fresh seafood and, of course, sampling more of the local wine. We watched the boats come in and out of the harbor, feeling incredibly relaxed and content. We knew this was a trip that would stay with us for a lifetime. Sibenik and the Plitvice Lakes National Park had truly stolen our hearts.
