As we strolled through the charming streets of old town, we were transported back in time to the days of the Roman empire. Our journey through history began as we toured the majestic Saint Domnius Bell Tower and marveled at the breathtaking view of the city from its heights. From there, we explored the ancient Diocletian’s Palace, where we learned about the fascinating history of the palace’s construction and the emperor who built it.

One particularly exciting moment was when we visited the underground area where the “Game of Thrones” scenes were shot. It was amazing to see this iconic show brought to life in such an ancient and magical setting.

As we continued on our adventure, we passed by stunning Roman ruins and stopped at charming street-side cafes nestled between towering Roman columns. The aromas of fresh-baked pastries and freshly brewed coffee filled the air, making us feel right at home in this ancient and exotic city.

We were serenaded by street performers singing melodic tunes and couldn’t resist snapping a photo with some friendly Roman soldiers we met along the way.

We made our way through one of the ancient old town gates, marveling at the incredible statue of The Gregory of Nin. We left Split with a newfound love for history and a sense of awe at the beauty and charm of this ancient city.

Krka National Park

Krka National Park in Croatia is a nature lover’s paradise. We started our day early in the morning with fresh pastries, and drove towards the park. It was a great idea to begin early, as the park was not crowded at that time. As the day progressed, the flow of tourists increased, but that did not take away from the natural beauty we got to experience.

As we started our walk down the mountain, we were greeted by the enchanting sound of the bubbling water.

The boardwalk takes you through a serene path with various waterfalls along the way. Although the path is a bit rocky and technical, it was an easy journey for my group. However, for those who might find it challenging, there is a shuttle service available.

The water in the park is crystal clear and extremely refreshing. Along the wooden path, there are several places to observe fish swimming around. The falls may not be as enormous drops, but there is an abundance of cascading water that is simply stunning. Depending on which route you choose, it is possible to begin or end the walk with the largest falls. It was fascinating for us to finish with the most dramatic falls.

Krka National Park is a place of profound beauty, and being encompassed by nature is an experience that cannot be replicated elsewhere. The rendezvous with the natural surroundings was worth every moment spent there.

Trogir

Did you know that Trogir is one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe? Its stunning architecture blends a variety of influences, including Greek, Roman, Venetian, and Croatian styles. In fact, the entire Old Town of Trogir is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Trogir’s signature red tile roofs are another architectural wonder. Did you know that they were first introduced by the Venetians in the 15th century? The tiles are made from a unique local clay and baked in the traditional way, giving the roofs their distinct color and durability.

As for dining, Trogir has plenty of options to suit all tastes and budgets. Traditional Croatian cuisine features fresh seafood, grilled meats, and locally sourced produce.

And of course, no visit to Trogir is complete without trying the local pastries and sweets, such as strudel and fritule.

Finally, if you want to find unique souvenirs and gifts to take back home, Trogir is a treasure trove of local handicrafts and artisanal products. From hand-painted ceramics to lacework and handmade jewelry, there’s something for everyone.

Hvar

With the wind in our hair and the sun on our face, we embarked on an adventure like no other. The mountains seemed to stretch out as far as the eye could see, with majestic views of the stunning landscape that surrounded us. As we revved up the engine of our scooter, we were filled with a sense of exhilaration, eager to explore the winding roads that lay ahead of us.

The beauty of the island was simply breathtaking, each turn revealing a new vista of nature’s magnificence. We came upon a charming seaside village where we indulged in a sumptuous lunch right next to a serene canal. The views were so picturesque that we could hardly believe such a place existed.

Our adventure continued as we stumbled upon a hidden beach enveloped by crystal-clear waters. The splendor of this secluded cove left us speechless, and we knew that we had found an absolute gem. After a few hesitant moments, we dove into the refreshing water and swam alongside the locals, laughing and bonding over the marvels of nature.

As the day drew to a close, we knew that the highlight of our journey was yet to come. Leaving the beach we followed our path back on windy mountain roads.

We rode up the mountain to Fortica Fortress. The fortress had a rich history, having sheltered the citizens of Hvar from invasion for centuries, and it was an awe-inspiring feeling to stand in the midst of such a legendary site.

In the end, our adventure had been nothing short of amazing. We had witnessed the sublime beauty of mountains, taken in the spectacular vistas of nature and had a taste of the rich history of Hvar. It was an experience we shall never forget, and we eagerly look forward to returning.

We also learned that Hvar has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with the Greeks being the first to arrive on the island, followed by the Romans. Hvar was an important port of the Venetian Empire and is well known for its production of lavender and olives. Fortica Fortress was built in the 16th century to defend Hvar island from the Ottoman Empire and was strategically positioned on a 343-meter-high hill, providing a clear view of the island’s surroundings.
