Bangkok

John visited Bangkok mostly just to renew his visa. It was a pretty short trip. There are two airports in Bangkok and John landed in Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and then took a Train from the airport to Phaya Thai Station for $5.42 USD. The city was busy and congested. It is a sprawling city with lots of very large buildings and an impressive skyline. There are lots of motorbikes, cars and buses. John took the rail from the airport to downtown and then walked around for about two hours.
John rented a motorbike from Asoke Motorbike Rental in Bangkok. They were affordable and friendly. (I have no affiliation with them, and this is not a paid affiliate) They were very friendly and affordable. They charged 1800 Bot which came out to $54.53 for 7 days.
After a few hours walking through the city, John rented a motorbike and headed South. It took much longer to get out of Bangkok than expected. The motorbike was small and there are several big trucks on the highway. It is not a peaceful easy ride. You need to be really careful, and I would not suggest this for anyone that is not used to riding a motorbike.

John road South West out of Bangkok and headed to the Amphawa Floating Market area where he stayed the rest of the time before heading back to Vietnam. He stayed at Uncle Chef’s Homestay for about $30 a night. The host was very gracious and kind. John’s Vietnam phone number did not work which proved to be a navigation problem as well as communication problem. So the host was kind enough to drive John in his personal vehicle to two different locations to help him find a Sim card. When he found a store that sold the cards the host actually paid for it and would not accept reimbursement. He also cooked breakfast which was either noodles or chicken fried rice and it was delicious. He also brought John fruit a few times in the afternoon just to be nice.

Amphawa Floating Market

This was a very unique experience. It is a beautiful place and apologies for the pictures not being better. It is so interesting with lots of boardwalks that follow the river. The market has so many vendors and shops and the food is really good.
There were not a lot of boats at the market. In fact almost all the boats that are there are for tourist to take out and look at the fireflies at dusk. John didn’t actually do this because he had to ride back on his motorbike and did not want to do it at night.
